In this series of blogs, we're going to pull apart the key components of SEO and tackle each step, one at a time. We'll introduce you to all of the what, the whys and the hows of optimizing a website, and with this information, you'll be well on your way to getting to grips with this often misunderstood and misrepresented discipline.
For clarity, we're going to be talking about Search Engine Optimization for websites, but SEO can also be applied to social media and many other digital channels.
SEO stands for search engine optimization; the process of applying strategies and techniques to increase the visibility of a website to your target market. Experience informs us that if more of your target market can find your website, this will increase not just the quantity of traffic, but also the quality.
The main purpose of SEO is to help websites gain a high-rank position in search engine results, for important keywords and phrases, which in turn increases traffic.
May I ask you a question?
How many times have you scrolled past the first page of results? I'm guessing not often... Research suggests that over 75% of users are unlikely to scroll past the first page of results. From this research we can deduce that unless you rank for keywords and phrases, your target market won't see you and thus SEO may have an important role to play in your digital marketing plans.
